Instructors & Helpers
Skiing is our first love, but it’s not our life. Many of us are certified in Adaptive skiing or snowboarding. If not, we’re continually working toward that goal. But when the snow melts, we don’t sit still in the off-season. Our instructors answered two questions to introduce themselves:
- What do you love about Liberty?
- What do you do when not on the slopes?
Alex Milley • Ski Instructor
- I love skiing, being outdoors, and being involved in the Adaptive community.
- When not skiing I’m mountain biking, golfing and trail running.
Amanda Lopez • Level I Adaptive (blind/dd), Level I Alpine
- I love the laid-back atmosphere and Liberty’s oatmeal-raisin cookies.
- When not skiing I’m salsa dancing and creating collage art (see www.amandalopez.com).
Andrea Sherwin, OTR/L Phd • Ski Instructor
- I love the wonderful sense of community, the salad bar and my kids can ski here.
- When not skiing I enjoy Pilates, cooking and cycling.
Bruce Bennett • Ski Instructor
- I love providing the Adaptive teaching environment for my daughter.
- When not skiing I’m flying planes, biking, golfing and keeping up with my grandkids.
Cheryl Monroe • Level I Adaptive
- I love the first ski run of the day and my Starbucks coffee.
- When not skiing I’m riding horses, gardening and playing outdoors.
Connie Stadler Bay • Level I Adaptive (blind/dd), Level II Alpine
- I love to share my passion for skiing, especially with folks with disabilities.
- When not skiing I’m a taxi driver for my son and life coach (ask me).
Dan Cerino • (Snowboard) Level I Adaptive, (Ski) Level I Adaptive (blind/dd)
- I love teaching Adaptive students and watching their progress.
- When not boarding/skiing I’m taking photos, travelling, riding my ATV, target shooting and working on my parents cabin.
Dave Penland • Level I Adaptive (mono/bi); Level I Alpine
- I love that Liberty is close to home and that my whole family can enjoy our time together.
- When I am not at Liberty I am running, swimming, playing football, or just hanging out with family and friends.
Dick White • Level III Adaptive, Level II Alpine
- I enjoy helping people of all abilities learn how to ski.
- When not skiing I’m kayaking, sailing, hiking, biking and chasing my dogs.
Jim Zsiga • Ski Instructor
- I love the people who come here, improving my skiing teaching the best students in the U.S.
- When not skiing I’m camping, travelling, hiking and teaching English as a second language.
John McCarthy • Ski Instructor
- I love meeting new skiers and helping out on the slopes, even in the rain.
- When not skiing I’m doing yard-work, biking, scouting, and camping with my son with Down Syndrome.
Julie Penland • Ski Instructor
- I love the people and the great environment for my daughter to play.
- When I’m not at Liberty I’m enjoying time with family.
Julia Silber • Level I Alpine
- I love the people I work with and the clientele I teach—and watching my kids grow up at Liberty.
- When not skiing I’m bookkeeping, playing tennis, golfing, biking and driving my car all over!
Katrina Holt • Level I Adaptive (blind/dd), Level III Alpine
- I love the beautiful sight of snow, and skiing with old and new friends.
- When not skiing I love hiking, biking, running, kayaking and other outdoor adventures.
Kim Keller • Level II Adaptive
- I love Liberty for the wonderful playground it provides in the winter.
- When not skiing I miss the camaraderie of my fellow instructors.
Leslie White • Level III Adaptive, Level II Alpine
- I love all the great people I’ve met working with dedicated Adaptive instructors.
- When not skiing I’m sailing, kayaking, and hanging with my dogs.
Lindsey Harris • Level II Adaptive, Level I Alpine
- I love the wonderful people, smiling faces and great snow!
- When not skiing I’m in physical therapy school, hiking, running and watching for snowflakes.
Manny Pina • Ski Instructor
- I love my second family at Liberty mountain and the Wounded Warrior program that introduced me to the Adaptive program.
- When not 3-track skiing I’m playing with computers, riding my hand-bike, scuba diving and water skiing.
Mark Houston-Ludlam • Level I Adaptive (blind/dd)
- I love the people, students and staff, and the sense of family. It’s a great, friendly place to make some turns on the slopes.
- When not skiing I’m building our little farm south of Annapolis and “herding cats” (managing our company’s engineers).
Mike McGregor • Level I Adaptive (mono-bi)
- I love that Liberty is close to home and has great snow, great beer, and great people.
- When not boarding/skiing I’m landscaping, biking, canoeing, kayaking, camping and volunteering with other Adaptive sports (waterskiing, hand-cycling).
Meredith Peace • Level I Adaptive (blind/dd), Level I Alpine
- I’m always inspired by the Adaptive students’ families—the love, dedication, time, and support for their loved ones.
- When not skiing I’m enjoying family, friends, diving, travelling, cooking and learning something new.

- I love Liberty because it is fun, close, and I get to ski for free.
- When not skiing I’m chasing my kids around and playing with stinging insects (as a bee keeper).
Tim Collard • Level I Adaptive (mono/bi)
- I love great friends, skiing, McKees Tavern and super students at Liberty.
- When not skiing I’m hiking, canoeing, kayaking, coaching and golfing.

- I love the family atmosphere—the people are great!
